Join Our Team as a Senior Pensions Assistant (Grade 8)

Location: Matlock, Derbyshire / Hybrid Working
Working Time: Full‑time (37 hours) and part‑time opportunities available

Are you ready to take the next step in your pensions or customer‑focused career?

Derbyshire Pension Fund is looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals to join our growing team as Senior Pensions Assistants. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in administering the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for over 96,000 members and 370+ employers, helping us deliver an excellent, accurate and supportive service.

As a Senior Pensions Assistant, you’ll support members and employers through every stage of their LGPS journey—from calculating and arranging pension benefits to providing clear, confident guidance on regulations and procedures. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of our service, support colleagues with training and development, and help maintain the high standards expected of a public sector pension fund.

Why Join Us?

Your role will help us deliver a dependable, high‑quality service to the many members and employers who rely on the Fund.

Hybrid & In‑Person Working That Supports Development

We offer a flexible blend of home and office working.
Our in‑person time in the Matlock office is especially valuable—providing hands‑on training, face‑to‑face collaboration, and opportunities to build confidence in complex pension calculations and system processes. This is a great environment for professional growth, learning from experienced colleagues, and sharing knowledge across the team.

Supportive, Collaborative Culture

You’ll join a team where people help each other succeed. We value clear communication, continuous improvement, and a willingness to learn and adapt.

What We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience in a fast‑paced, customer‑focused environment
  • Strong numerical skills and excellent accuracy
  • The ability to interpret and apply complex rules
  • Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Office
  • A proactive approach and strong organisational skills
  • The ability to work independently and contribute positively to a team
  • Great communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly

Experience working with LGPS or pensions administration is desirable but not essential — we will provide training and support to help you succeed.

What We Offer

  • Flexible working hours
  • Hybrid working ( a blend of office and remote working)
  • 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years’ service) plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Guaranteed incremental annual pay increases
  • Comprehensive training and development, with opportunities to grow into specialist areas
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Discounts at selected leisure centres
  • A wellbeing package including free eye tests, physiotherapy and counselling services

Apply Today

If you're passionate about delivering high‑quality service and want to contribute to a forward‑thinking, member‑focused pension fund, we’d love to hear from you.
