What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking tofilla position, at Benyon Primary School,as a General Kitchen Assistantto support our team in providingdelicious and healthy school meals to our children.Your role will be toworkas part ofthethemto prepare and serve food, clean the kitchen and dining areas as wellas ensuring food hygiene protocols are followed.
We are looking to appointkitchen assistantswhowill:
• Work well as part ofa team player, willing to take onwhatever job needs completing.
• Be reliable.
• Work hard to meet deadlines.
• Communicate well with adults and children.
• Be flexible to meet the needs of the children.
• Have a willingness to learn and complete appropriate training.
Kitchen experience would be helpful but training can be provided.
All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involveappropriate checksand clearances.

To work within a team whose aim is to serve fresh, interesting and nutritious school meals within budget which meet Government, Ashlyns and the School’s standards at all times.
Duties
Food Preparation, Quality & Standards
To work as part of a team, and under supervision and instruction from the Catering Manager, helping to prepare and cook fresh food of a good quality to meet the specified standards:
• To help prepare a seasonal3 week menu cycle, ensuring full adherence to recipes, food presentation standards and portion control
• To understand the needs of those pupils with special dietary requirements and ensure they are catered for
• To work to deadlines to ensure meals are served promptly
• To ensure that meals are presented and served in an attractive way
• To ensure that work is carried out hygienically,safelyand tidily
• To support theSchool’semphasis on pupils’ health and well being
Specifically:
• To prepareand cookfood forserving
• To serve food over the counter and anywhere else on request
• To ensure allappropriate utensilsand other items are adequately stocked
• Toclean all kitchen equipment, fixtures, fittings, walls, floors, utensils,crockeryand cutlery as instructed
Administration
To report any complaints or incidents to the Operations Manager.
To support the Catering Manager with administrative tasks related to, but not limited to:deliveries, orders, stock checks, food: cooking, holding and serving temperature checks and any other tasks related to allergen risk management and completing the Safer Food Better Business standards and governance adherence.
Health & Safety
To ensure that policies and procedureswith regard tohealth and safety and hygiene areunderstood and adhered to at all times.
To ensure cleaning schedules are carried out.
To ensure correct uniformiswornat all times.
To ensureany faults inkitchen equipment are reported to theCookand/ortheAssistant Cook.
To reportany accidents to theCook and/or the Assistant Cook.
Conduct
To be familiar with all relevant school policies, rules and proceduresand any changes to these.
Toadopta standard of behaviour to colleagues which is polite,honestand friendly.
To deal with children in a polite,professionaland friendly mannerat all timesand toseek guidance where necessary fromthe Cook and/orthe Assistant Cook.
General
Any other duties which mayreasonably beregarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the post.
