37 hours per week – Full Time, 100% Contract (including school holidays)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Mountain Ash Comprehensive School as a Caretaker. We are seeking to appoint a reliable, proactive and values-driven individual who will play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure and well-presented environment for our pupils, staff and visitors.
This is a full-time, year-round position and forms an important part of our site team, supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the school.
The role operates on a rotating early and late shift pattern in partnership with the Site Manager to ensure full site coverage across the school day. Early shifts commence at 5:30am.
We are looking for a candidate who:
• Is reliable, punctual and takes pride in maintaining high standards across the school site.
• Has experience of caretaking, site supervision, facilities or maintenance work.
• Demonstrates good practical maintenance and DIY skills, with the ability to carry out minor repairs and general upkeep.
• Has a strong awareness of health & safety and site security, always ensuring compliance with school procedures.
• Can work effectively as part of a team under the direction of the Site Manager, while also using initiative to manage tasks independently.
• Is flexible and willing to respond to the operational needs of a busy secondary school.
• Communicates clearly and professionally with staff, pupils, contractors and visitors.
• Is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Mountain Ash Comprehensive School is an improving 11–16 mixed comprehensive school (from September 2026), situated on an extensive green-field site on the outskirts of Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley.

The Role
Working as part of the site team and under the direction of the Site Manager, the successful candidate will undertake a wide range of caretaking, maintenance and porterage duties. This will include monitoring the condition of the premises, carrying out minor repairs, recording information for compliance, supporting room set-ups, assisting with deliveries, and ensuring that the school site remains safe, secure and fit for purpose throughout the school day and during holiday periods.
The role requires a practical, organised and solution-focused approach, with a strong commitment to teamwork and high standards.
