An opportunity has arisen to join Mountain Ash Comprehensive School as an Evening Caretaker. We are seeking to appoint a reliable, conscientious and values-driven individual to support the safety, security and smooth operation of the school site during evening hours.
This role is key to ensuring that our facilities remain safe, welcoming and well maintained for school lettings, events and activities, and that all users of the site are supported in a professional and approachable manner.
We are looking for a candidate who:
• Is reliable, punctual and trustworthy, with a strong sense of responsibility for the safety and security of the school site.
• Can work confidently and calmly on their own, using initiative to manage tasks and respond appropriately to issues or emergencies.
• Has experience of caretaking, site supervision, facilities or maintenance work, and is willing to undertake a wide range of practical duties.
• Demonstrates good basic maintenance and DIY skills, with the ability to carry out minor repairs, porterage and room set-ups.
• Is professional, approachable and able to communicate effectively with staff, hirers, contractors and visitors.
• Has a good awareness of health & safety and site security, ensuring procedures are followed during evening lettings and activities.
• Is flexible and committed, understanding the operational needs of a busy school site, including supporting exams, lettings and occasional events.
• Is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Mountain Ash Comprehensive School is an improving 11–16 mixed comprehensive school (from September 2026), situated on an extensive green-field site on the outskirts of Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley.

The Role
The Evening Caretaker will play a vital role in securing the school premises, supporting lettings and events, and ensuring that facilities are prepared, monitored and reset to a high standard. Acting as the main point of contact on site during evening hours, the post holder will provide a visible and reassuring presence, helping to safeguard users, property and facilities.
The role involves close communication with the Site Manager and school staff and requires a proactive and practical approach to caretaking and site management.
