Are you a culinary wizard who loves the challenge of "Ready, Steady, Cook"? Do you believe that a great meal can be the highlight of someone's day?
Our clients Day Centre is looking for a creative, organised, and big-hearted Cook to lead the kitchen. This isn't just about feeding people; it's about bringing joy, nutrition, and a sense of home to their members living with dementia.
Hourly rate: £14.88
Hours: Monday-Wednesday, 9:30am to 1:30pm per day.
The Role: Creative, Impactful, and Rewarding
As the lead Cook, you'll be the heart of the centre. You won't just follow a static menu, you'll use your expertise to turn fresh deliveries and available ingredients into delicious, balanced two-course lunches for 20 to 30 people.
Working alongside a friendly team of volunteers, you'll turn the kitchen into a hub of activity and care.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Creative Cooking: Designing daily recipes on the fly based on available stock, keeping meals exciting, fresh, and waste-free.
- Kitchen Leadership: Managing food deliveries, ensuring hygiene, cleanliness and safe food storage practises are followed.
- Safety First: Using your Level 3 Food Hygiene knowledge to maintain impeccable HACCP records and safety standards.
- Volunteer support: Guiding and inspiring their wonderful volunteers as they support you with prep and service.
- Dementia-Friendly Dining: Understand specific needs of clients and design meals to ensure they are suitable and enjoyed.
Who You Are:
- A Food Safety Pro: You hold a Level 3 Food Hygiene certificate and take pride in a spotless, compliant kitchen.
- The "Ingredient Whisperer": You can look at a delivery of seasonal produce and instantly see a fantastic two-course meal.
- A People Person: You're patient, kind, and enjoy the company of older adults and volunteers.
- An Efficient Planner: You're comfortable cooking for a group and hitting lunch times with a smile.
