Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Small Animal Practice – Newmarket, Suffolk – Full Time

A thriving, community-focused small animal clinic in Newmarket is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and supportive team on a full-time basis.

Located in the heart of a sought-after market town in West Suffolk, close to Cambridge, this well-established practice is proudly independent and forms part of a successful group of four small animal clinics. The Newmarket branch is led by two experienced “vet mums” who are passionate about delivering outstanding clinical care while remaining deeply rooted in their local community.

The team regularly participates in local events and charity initiatives, from bake sales to fundraising campaigns, reflecting their genuine commitment to the people and pets they serve.

The Practice

The clinic provides advanced on-site care supported by experienced RVNs, with daily RVN-led clinics that enable Veterinary Surgeons to dedicate time to thorough case work-ups and tailored care plans. The practice is fully equipped with modern diagnostic facilities, including:

• In-house laboratory
• ECG
• Digital X-ray
• Ultrasound
• Endoscopy

In addition, the team benefits from the full support of a sister practice operating 24/7, offering advanced surgical services, inpatient care, and on-site CT imaging. This collaborative network ensures seamless patient care and excellent clinical support.

The Role

This opportunity is ideal for a Veterinary Surgeon who:

• Is RCVS registered
• Has previous experience in small animal practice
• Enjoys consulting and building long-term client relationships
• Demonstrates confidence in clinical decision-making
• Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Thrives in a supportive, fun, and genuinely caring team environment

This is a fantastic environment for professional growth, with a strong emphasis on high clinical standards across all roles and structured support to develop skills to the highest level.

What’s on Offer

• 5 working weeks annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time candidates)
• Generous CPD allowance, with support for certificate-level study
• Private Healthcare with Vitality
• Occupational Health Services
• Free eye test vouchers and contribution towards glasses for VDU users
• Enhanced Maternity and Paternity leave
• 3 weeks occupational sickness pay
• Generous colleague discount scheme for up to 5 registered pets

The Location

Newmarket offers the charm of Suffolk countryside living with excellent access to Cambridge and surrounding areas. The vibrant town centre features a variety of independent shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants, making it a highly desirable place to live and work.

Veterinary Surgeons looking for a rewarding career within a proudly independent, community-driven practice are encouraged to apply. This is a unique opportunity to join a clinic where clinical excellence, community spirit, and team wellbeing are equally valued.
