Team Manager – Social Worker

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Social Worker to step into a Team Manager role within our Child Protection Team in Penzance.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 5:15pm, initially for three months with the possibility of extension.

As a Social Worker and Team Manager within the Children & Families Service, your primary focus will be improving the welfare, safety and outcomes of children and young people supported by the team. With the guidance and supervision of a Service Manager or Head of Service, you will lead a statutory frontline service supporting children in need, children in need of protection, and children in care — ensuring practice aligns with national legislation, safeguarding partnership policies, and best practice guidance.

We’re looking for a qualified Social Worker who:

• Holds a recognised Social Work qualification
• Is registered with Social Work England (SWE)
• Has experience managing a frontline social work team
• Has strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, guidance and best practice

You’ll also bring:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong leadership and team-building ability
• Confident decision-making and risk management skills
• Experience in supervision, supporting analytical thinking and professional development while keeping the child at the centre of decision-making
• Performance management experience
• Knowledge of court processes
• Good IT and word processing skills

Desirable experience includes working knowledge of systemic, restorative, Signs of Safety (SOS), strengths-based and relationship-based approaches.

We’re seeking someone with applied knowledge of working with a diverse range of children, young people and families, who can assess strengths, needs and risks, and translate these into clear, outcome-focused plans. You should also have proven experience providing advice, consultation, mentoring, supervision and appraisal support to qualified and unqualified practitioners, trainees, agency workers and volunteers.

If you’re a passionate and skilled Social Worker ready to lead, support and drive high-quality practice within a Child Protection Team, we’d love to hear from you.
