Crynodeb
We are looking for environmental professionals with experience of landfill management/regulation to join our teams that regulate permitted waste and industrial installations.
We welcome external applications from people with relevant experience from within the landfill industry
The Environment Agency regulates a range of activities that affect the environment, people and the economy. As a regulatory specialist you will be at the forefront of protecting people and wildlife from harm and securing environmental improvements.
You will undertake assessment of permit compliance and engineering activities at a range of landfill sites. You will make complex assessments of an operators' ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise resources. At times you will set conditions under which a site may continue to operate and enforce the law should they fail to comply.
You will use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, by engaging with partners, community groups and the public often in relation to high profile sites. Our Officers work closely with our national permitting service to give pre-application advice to prospective applicants and existing permit holders on permit and variation applications. They also liaise closely with permitting officers to ensure permits contain appropriate conditions, improvement requirements and emission limits.
Officers regulate their own portfolio of sites and will identify areas of non-compliance and improvement opportunities through inspections and audits. You will undertake training to hold a warrant under S108 of the environment act 1995 and will be expected to take a proportionate response to non-compliance, including enforcement activities.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate. This may attract an additional payment and full training will be available.
All flexible working patterns are welcomed and can be discussed at interview
