Title: Warehouse Operative
Location: RAF Menwith Hill

The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of warehousing duties with responsibility of handling or overseeing one or more product lines, a segment of a large warehouse, or serve as the senior employee in a smaller warehouse. The position requires the use of forklift trucks and light motor vehicles.

You will be responsible for organizing and coordinating an effective receiving and storage operation and will perform tasks involved in both issuing and shipping items while maintaining accurate records and documentation. You will operate forklift trucks and automated material handling and identification equipment to include mobile stock selectors and electromechanical automated equipment, such as high rise automated storage and retrieval vehicles to move, stack and unstack, load and unload, bin, and position material. In addition, you will drive one or more types of trucks, such as pickup, panel, and flatbed trucks, which typically have a gross vehicle weight of 7.5 Tonnes or less, on public roads at highway speeds. In accordance with your duties, you will perform material handling duties, including the use of tools and other equipment, in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations. at all times.

A valid UK Driving License (Category B)
Sufficient experience in the Key Skills indicated.

Key Skills required
1. Knowledge of accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and material handling techniques; warehousing functions, such as material receiving, storage, issuing, and preservation; and of warehouse configurations, storage requirements for particular commodities, and storage documentation requirements.
2. Knowledge of inventory procedures; regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation; and of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Skill in the use of automated material processing equipment and systems to include computer terminals, optical readers, and scanners.
4. Ability to interpret and apply instructions pertaining to material handling; and to maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
5. Ability to prepare inventory and production reports; and to screen shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies.
6. Ability to safely operate fork lift trucks to handle controls for starting, stopping, backing, lifting, lowering, tilting, and driving fork lift trucks through narrow aisles, up and down ramps, and in and out of trucks; and to safely drive and operate a motor vehicle to manipulate controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions and in judging overhead, side clearance, turning radius, and braking distance.

Conditions of employment
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
3. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
4. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
5. Hours of work: 37 hours weekly. Fixed schedule: Mon-Thu 08.00-16.30/Fri 08.00-13.00. Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies.
6. Emergency overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, appropriate to the grade and skill set.
7. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
8. You must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
9. With suitable training, you must be able to operate various sizes of powered material handling equipment (Forklifts/ JCB Telehandlers).
10. As required, may train and/or guide other personnel in performance of material handling duties.
11. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
12. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.
13. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required.

Physical requirements:

The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weight-lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of forklift trucks. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire.

This position is only available to UK Nationals. Applicants must hold UK citizenship and have lived in the UK for at least 8 years out of the last 10 years.
