Summary

SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary and ongoing role starting March 2026 with potential to become permanent

Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Support pupils aged 11–16 with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours
  • Work 1:1 and with small groups in an alternative education provision
  • Help pupils regulate emotions and re-engage with learning
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to motivate hard-to-reach learners
  • Assist with personalised learning strategies and behaviour plans
  • Support lesson activities through modelling, guidance, and encouragement
  • Promote positive behaviour and maintain consistent routines
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals
  • Uphold safeguarding expectations and prioritise pupil well-being

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Strong SEMH experience is essential
  • Resilient, patient, and confident managing challenging behaviours
  • Skilled at motivating disengaged pupils through relationship-based support
