Berkshire Healthcare CAMHS are excited to recruit a qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to work as part of the Mental Health Support Team for schools in the Reading area. The MHST service is part of an exciting initiative funded by The Dept of Health, Health Education England and partners, with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in school and the community. This opportunity allows you to join an existing innovative service during an exciting time as the MHST provision is set to expand in the next few years, whilst working alongside an enthusiastic, compassionate and inspiring team!


You will work within our Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in Reading, delivering evidence-based interventions to children and young people aged up to 18, helping to shape emotionally healthy school environments and provide direct support to those who need it most.


You will be co-located in schools across your locality, working collaboratively with education staff to promote a whole-school approach to emotional wellbeing and mental health.


There is a focus on close links with other CAMHS pathways to ensure a seamless approach to care for our CYPF. This role offers an exciting opportunity to continue to innovate and deliver high quality evidence-based care and whole system interventions, with great ongoing CPD opportunities.








1. Deliver evidence-based intervention for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems.

1. As a qualified EMHP you will be confident in the use of CYP IAPT principles, evidence-based interventions and routine outcome measures.

1. Help children and young people who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services; using effective multiagency collaborative working to effectively signpost and refer on where appropriate.

1. Support professionals in various settings (e.g. education, Early Help, Social Care etc.) to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.

1. To care co-ordinate and manage a defined caseload of children and young people presenting with emotional health and wellbeing difficulties in schools under supervision.

1. To develop and provide training/workshops for professionals, parents and carers, and CYP in conjunction with colleagues.

1. Actively promote the whole system approach to developing and maintaining emotional health and well-being within and across services.

The “must haves” for this role:

1. Pre January 2023: successful completion of a Health Education England Quality Assured EMHP training programme OR Post January 2023: successful completion of a BPS accredited EMHP training programme

1. Be confident in assessing for and delivering, high quality, outcome focused, evidence-based low intensity interventions to children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties (CWP training),

1. Be confident in working in a multi-agency setting, working collaboratively with colleagues in Early Help, Social Care, schools and across the wider system.

1. As a person, will always be looking for new or better ways to deliver care and be keen to learn,

1. and most of all will have a calm, friendly and compassionate outlook and have a keen interest in early intervention and mental health promotion.
