Job Introduction

As aLinen PorteratSodexoinIpswich Hospital, you will be providing a comprehensive Portering service across the site,including general Portering duties and covering for dedicated departmentalporters as required (full training will be provided). The postholder willdeliver an efficient, high-quality service that meets scheduled tasks, ad hocrequests, and emergency response times. Responsibilities include the collectionof laundry from wards and departments throughout the site.

What you’ll do:

  • Perform all laundry Portering duties as directed.
  • Complete urgent and scheduled tasks on time, following procedures.
  • Follow hygiene and infection control standards.
  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Attend required training and annual appraisals.
  • Keep equipment clean and report faults promptly.
  • Wear issued uniform and PPE; report any damage.
  • Support during emergencies, work flexibly (including Bank Holidays), complete shift records, and carry out reasonable additional duties.

What you bring:

  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills; able to follow procedures
  • Knowledge of workplace Health & Safety
  • Previous experience in a service environment
  • Good standard of written and spoken English
  • Clear communication with colleagues, managers, patients, and the public
  • Customer care training (desirable)
  • Trustworthy and reliable
  • Calm under pressure; able to meet response times
  • Tidy appearance
  • Courteous and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Respectful of privacy and dignity
  • Flexible to meet service needs
  • Physically fit to lift and move patients and equipment in line with manual handling training
  • Able to undertake mortuary duties as required

Desirable:

  • Health service experience
  • Customer care training
