Job Description

We are seeking several reliable and professional HGV Class 2 Drivers to join our team. The successful candidate operates a well maitained fleet of vehicles across the United Kingdom, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of goods. This role requires excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network, adherence to health and safety standards, and the ability to handle loading and unloading equipment efficiently. The role is for a well established general haulage business based in Saltley, Birmingham, specialising in logistics, procurement, distribution and supply chain operations. The company maintains a strong reputation for reliability and efficiency within the regional transport sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate curtain side trailers safely and efficiently in accordance with company and legal requirements.
• Load and secure goods using ratchet strapping to prevent damage during transit.
• Use tail lifts, pallet trucks and pump trucks to manage unloading processes.
• Plan and follow routes with an emphasis on time management and fuel efficiency.
• Complete all necessary documentation including delivery notes and vehicle inspection reports.
• Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects or issues promptly.
• Maintain compliance with digital tachograph regulations and ensure accurate recording of driving hours.
• Communicate effectively with the logistics team to report delays, incidents or changes in schedule.
• Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures at all times.

Required Qualifications and Certifications

• Valid HGV Class 2 driving licence.
• Current Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card.
• Digital tachograph card.

Experience

• Minimum of 12 months commercial experience driving HGV Class 2 vehicles.
• Proven experience operating curtain side trailers and use of ratchet strapping.
• Experience in using tail lifts, pallet trucks and pump trucks in a logistics environment.

Knowledge and Skills

• Thorough geographical knowledge of the United Kingdom road network.
• Ability to operate loading and unloading equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong time management skills and ability to plan routes effectively.
• Good communication skills to liaise with the logistics team and customers.
• Attention to detail when completing vehicle checks and documentation.

Insurance Criteria

• Minimum age of 23 years.
• Maximum of six penalty points on driving licence.

Education

No formal academic qualifications are required; however, a good standard of literacy is essential for completing documentation and understanding instructions.

Working Conditions

The role is based at the Saltley depot and involves driving throughout the United Kingdom, often requiring early starts and late finishes. The role is full-time and temporary, with hours aligned to operational requirements.
