Summary


To lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the nursery, ensuring high-quality care, education, safeguarding, and compliance with statutory requirements. The Nursery Manager will create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children can thrive and staff feel supported and motivated.



Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Management
• Provide strong, inspirational leadership to the nursery team.
• Manage staff recruitment, induction, supervision, and performance appraisals.
• Develop a positive, supportive, and professional working culture.
• Lead regular team meetings and promote continuous professional development.
• Manage staffing ratios in line with statutory requirements.



2. Safeguarding & Child Protection
• Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
• Ensure all safeguarding policies are implemented and regularly reviewed.
• Respond appropriately to child protection concerns.
• Ensure all staff complete safeguarding training.



3. Quality of Education & Curriculum
• Oversee planning and delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.
• Monitor and evaluate children’s progress and development.
• Ensure inclusive practice and support children with additional needs.
• Maintain high standards of teaching and learning.



4. Compliance & Regulatory Requirements
• Ensure the nursery complies with Ofsted standards and all relevant legislation.
• Lead the setting through inspections and quality assurance processes.
• Maintain accurate records, policies, and risk assessments.
• Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times.



5. Parent & Community Engagement
• Build positive partnerships with parents and carers.
• Address concerns and feedback professionally and promptly.
• Promote the nursery within the local community.
• Work collaboratively with external agencies and professionals.



6. Financial & Operational Management
• Manage budgets, invoicing, and financial records.
• Monitor occupancy levels and implement strategies to maintain sustainability.
• Oversee purchasing and resource management.
• Ensure the premises are safe, clean, and well-maintained.



Person Specification

Essential Qualifications
• Level 3 qualification in Early Years (minimum)
• Level 5 qualification or willingness to work towards (desirable)
• Paediatric First Aid
• Safeguarding training
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership or senior role in Early Years



Skills & Experience
• Strong leadership and organisational skills
• Excellent knowledge of EYFS and safeguarding legislation
• Experience preparing for Ofsted inspections
• Ability to manage budgets and staffing effectively
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong understanding of child development
