Your new role
As the Interim Head of Internal Communications & Engagement, you will lead the organisation's staff and volunteer communications during a transformative period. You will develop and deliver a clear, inspiring internal communications strategy that brings organisational priorities to life.
You will:

  • Lead and inspire a medium-sized team and a wider internal communications network, championing best practice and high-quality, inclusive communication.
  • Work closely with the Executive Team and senior leaders to ensure clarity, cadence and accessibility across all staff and volunteer communications.
  • Shape channels, content and engagement approaches that motivate action and enable the organisation's people to feel informed, valued, and heard.
  • Drive a culture of listening, ensuring insight, feedback and "you said, we are" responses are embedded across internal communication activity.
  • Maintain strong external networks to keep the organisation connected to the latest thinking in internal communications and engagement.


Your work will have a significant impact on organisational culture, enabling people to thrive and making the organisation a place where everyone feels they belong.

What you'll need to succeed
We're looking for an experienced communications leader who can operate confidently in a large, complex organisation. You will bring:

  • Senior-level experience in internal or external communications.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics.
  • Exceptional influencing skills, with confidence engaging colleagues at all levels, including senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, including copywriting, presentations, and briefing.
  • Experience leading change communications effectively with clarity and empathy.
  • Proven leadership and people management capability, with experience developing high-performing teams.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, deliver at pace and oversee significant budgets.
  • Knowledge of best practice in internal communications and engagement, particularly across diverse audiences.

What you'll get in return
This position is offered on a 6-month Fixed Term Contract. The annual salary ranges from £67,236 to £74,724. A range of benefits are offered including 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays), hybrid and flexible working arrangements, pension and life assurance, amongst others.
