We are pleased to invite applications for the post of ITU Registrar, available on a fixed‑term basis for a minimum period of 9 months with the opportunity to extend. The first 3 months will be in theatres to gain the IAC (initial assessment of competency) in anaesthetics, followed by 6 – 12 months on the ITU registrar tier.

This role is ideally suited for a candidate who has significant experience in both Anaesthesia and ITU, either in the UK or abroad, but lacks the RCOA formal airway competency paperwork associated. The 3 month IAC period would allow formalisation of this for someone who already has significant airway experience as an anaesthetist.

This role will offer an excellent opportunity for doctors seeking to further develop their critical care experience while building on core anaesthetic training. Skills such as airway management, peri‑operative assessment, emergency response, and the initiation of anaesthesia will be required to work at registrar level within our busy Intensive Care Unit. We are committed to providing a supportive and educational environment in which you can continue to strengthen your clinical practice as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

0 – 3 months: The postholder will be in main theatres working on day shifts rotating through a variety of operating lists, covering anaesthesia for gynae, dental, general surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, urology and emergencies. During these 3 months they will be expected to gain their IAC sign off, with the potential to cover anaesthetic SHO oncalls.

3 – 9+ months: Following the first 3 months in theatre, the post holder will rotate to the ITU registrar rota and will be responsible for the daily review and management of critically ill adult patients in the critical care department. The candidate will be based on the Intensive Care Unit, but will also be responsible for
reviewing and managing critically ill patients throughout the hospital, primarily on the wards and in the emergency department.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. provide high quality, safe and compassionate care, while drive forward the building of the new Hillingdon Hospital.

Please note : Once a sufficient number of applications have been received the vacancy may be closed prior to the published closing down date.
