Airpac Rentals, part of the Vp plc group, is a specialist provider of Air & Power solutions to the oil & gas and energy sectors. We pride ourselves on technical excellence, safety and operational reliability.
We are now looking for an experienced Base Manager to take full responsibility for the operational management of our Great Yarmouth base. Reporting to the Operations Director, this is a key leadership role responsible for workshop operations, engineering teams, asset maintenance standards, cost control and overall site management.
You will ensure ABOS plant and equipment is maintained, repaired, stored and certified to the highest standards, while leading and developing your team to deliver safe, efficient and commercially sound operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment & Maintenance
- Manage the maintenance, repair and refurbishment of ABOS plant and equipment.
- Ensure all equipment is mechanically fit for purpose, cosmetically presentable, fully serviced and certified in line with ABOS standards and schemes of examination.
- Oversee inspection of returned equipment and ensure all required testing, repair and recharge processes are completed.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry within G42 (off-hires, job cards etc.).
- Continuously improve maintenance procedures and ensure all inspection, testing, calibration and certification activities are documented.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards across workshop and yard areas.
- Monitor UERs and internal audit outcomes to drive improvements.
Cost Control
- Manage departmental expenditure in line with budget and control unnecessary spend.
- Support the sourcing and procurement of spare parts and materials to ensure cost-effective serviceability without compromising quality.
Employee Management
- Line manage the Operations Co-ordinator and onshore/offshore engineers.
- Lead recruitment in line with company procedures.
- Conduct performance and development reviews, including quarterly competency assessments.
- Ensure training plans are in place to support team development and compliance.
- Maintain accurate personnel records and logs.
Quality, Health, Safety & Environment
- Lead on the creation, investigation and timely closure of UERs.
- Ensure toolbox talks and risk assessments are regularly completed and documented.
- Ensure all sub-contractors comply with site procedures and emergency protocols.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all HSEQ standards.
- Take responsibility for personal and team health & safety.
General Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operational running of the Great Yarmouth base.
- Support wider business objectives and assist with additional duties where required.
The Ideal Candidate:
- City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
- Strong engineering or technical background.
- Essential: Oil & Gas industry experience.
- Knowledge of ABOS equipment types and certification requirements.
- Experience supervising and developing small teams.
- Strong commercial awareness and cost control capability.
- Good IT skills including Word, Excel and database systems.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Strong organisational and leadership capability.
- Calm under pressure with a resilient and solutions-focused approach.
- Visible leadership and the ability to influence and motivate teams.
- Strong relationship-building skills both internally and externally.
- Clear and confident communication.
- Sound decision-making and commercial judgement.
- Ability to analyse operational and financial information.
