Crynodeb
Calderdale Valley of Sanctuary is a charitable organisation in Calderdale and part of the national City of Sanctuary movement. Our vision is that “Calderdale is inclusive and welcoming, where those seeking asylum and refugees can fully participate in the life of the valley and be recognised for their contribution”. Our team currently comprises 9 trustees, a part-time Director and a part-time Membership Engagement Lead.
Job Purpose: The role involves communicating our message passionately and creatively; it provides an initial point of contact for CVoS to ensure that enquiries are swiftly and effectively responded to and supports the organisation in running events and supporting/developing initiatives to further our aims.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Organisational Representation & Administration
Act as the first point of contact for CVoS
Maintain regular liaison with the National City of Sanctuary team.
Support CVoS team with administration tasks for both internal and external events /meetings
2. Communications & Public Engagement
Ensure effective, creative, inclusive communication in line with the CVoS Communications Strategy and national City of Sanctuary guidance including:
Mainstream media: providing updates, stories and media engagement.
Website: regular updating and development of the CVoS website.
Electronic newsletter: with the Membership Engagement Lead support production of the monthly newsletter.
Social media: regular updates across platforms including Facebook and Instagram; responding to comments and direct messages where necessary.
Publicity materials: production, updating and distribution of promotional resources.
Monitor the reach of communications activity.
3. Events & Campaigns
Support the organisation, promotion and delivery of CVoS events, including Refugee Week, in collaboration with CVoS staff and trustees.
In collaboration with the Director and Membership Engagement Lead, promote and support key campaigns aligned with CVoS objectives.
Coordinate media interviews related to events, campaigns.
Support delivery of national and local campaigns linked to CVoS priorities.
4. Digital Systems
Manage the CVoS Mailchimp account, ensuring records are accurate and compliant with data protection legislation.
We can offer you:
a flexible, supportive and person-centred work environment;
access to relevant training, both about the asylum system and about working with comms in this sector;
a mixture of directed and self-directed working;
reimbursement for travel and any other expenses incurred as part of the role;
a work laptop and phone.
You will need to be self-motivated, able to prioritise your own workload and able to work remotely, as we do not have an office (meeting rooms can be hired for occasional in-person meetings).
Your working hours will be agreed with the rest of the staff team on a flexible basis, with only very occasional weekend or evening work required. Availability on a Tuesday or Thursday is essential to meet team colleagues.
