Job Title: Retainer GP National GP Retention Scheme Location-All Saints Surgery, Burton upon Trent Hours-4 Clinical Sessions per Week (0.4 FTE) Contract-Fixed Term (subject to National GP Retention Scheme approval and annual review) Reports to-GP Partners / Clinical Lead Job Summary The Retainer GP will provide high-quality, safe and patient-centred primary care services under the National GP Retention Scheme. The role is designed to support sustainable clinical practice through structured educational supervision, protected CPD time and a supportive working environment. The post-holder will deliver four clinical sessions per week in accordance with an agreed job plan and will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and responsive patient care. Main Duties and Responsibilities Deliver comprehensive primary care services through face-to-face, telephone and remote consultations Assess, diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions in line with national guidance Prescribe safely and cost-effectively in accordance with local and national policies Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and legally compliant clinical records Undertake clinical administration associated with patient care Participate in clinical meetings and multidisciplinary discussions Contribute to quality improvement activity, audit and service development initiatives Support delivery of QOF and enhanced services where appropriate Participate in safeguarding processes for adults and children Comply with infection prevention and control policies Clinical Governance The post-holder is expected to: Participate in significant event analysis and reflective learning Adhere to practice policies, NICE guidance and professional standards Engage with clinical audit and quality assurance processes Maintain revalidation and appraisal requirements Comply with data protection and confidentiality legislation Supervision and Professional Development In accordance with the National GP Retention Scheme: A named Educational Supervisor will provide structured supervision (minimum 2 hours per month) Protected CPD time will be incorporated into the agreed job plan The role will be subject to annual review under the retention scheme framework Person Specification Essential Full GMC registration with licence to practise Inclusion on the National Medical Performers List Eligibility for the National GP Retention Scheme Strong clinical decision-making and risk management skills Commitment to high standards of patient-centred care Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team Desirable Experience working within UK general practice Interest in quality improvement and service development Terms and Conditions This post is offered under the framework of the National GP Retention Scheme and is subject to confirmation of eligibility and regional approval.
