Teaching Assistant Forest Schooling UK (Level 3)Job SummaryWe are seeking a compassionate, resilient and highly adaptable Teaching Assistant to support teaching and learning within our specialist Full Time Forest School provision for children and young people aged 8–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.This is primarily a teaching-based role with supervision duties alongside. You will actively support the planning and delivery of learning sessions, working alongside the teaching team to facilitate academic progress. The role will also involve working closely with the behaviour team to support children's social and emotional development. However, our provision does not follow the National Curriculum. Our learners require highly personalised, therapeutic and creative approaches to education. Teaching is delivered through child-led, experiential learning and bespoke curriculum pathways designed around individual EHCP outcomes, emotional readiness and regulation needs.This role requires someone who can think flexibly, teach creatively and adapt rapidly in response to pupil presentation on any given day.Important: Our cohort presents with highly complex SEMH and trauma profiles. Pupils can demonstrate extremely challenging behaviour, including dysregulation, high-risk behaviours and the use of extreme or inappropriate language. Staff must be emotionally resilient, calm under pressure and confident in managing and de-escalating crisis behaviour. This role is not suitable for individuals without experience of working with significantly challenging behaviour.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the planning and delivery of bespoke educational sessions tailored to individual pupil needs.Contribute actively to teaching and learning, adapting lessons in real time in response to emotional regulation and engagement levels.Deliver small group and 1:1 teaching interventions in literacy, numeracy, life skills and project-based learning through outdoor and experiential methods.Facilitate our ethos, ensuring learning intentions are embedded within activities.Work closely with the teaching team to implement personalised learning pathways rather than standardised curriculum models.Support assessment for learning through observation, recording progress and contributing to reviews and reports.Manage and de-escalate extremely challenging behaviours using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.Promote emotional regulation, social development and independence through consistent modelling and relational practice.Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, wider Forest School staff and external professionals to support EHCP outcomes.Ensure safeguarding and health and safety procedures are followed at all times.Person SpecificationEssentialExperience supporting teaching and learning for pupils with SEMH and highly challenging behaviour.Confidence delivering small group or 1:1 learning activities.Ability to adapt teaching approaches beyond traditional National Curriculum structures.Creativity in delivering learning through practical, outdoor and experiential methods.Proven ability to manage extreme behaviour and inappropriate language calmly and professionally.High levels of emotional resilience and strong professional boundaries.Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and child protection procedures.Strong communication and teamwork skills.DesirableLevel 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).Experience in alternative provision or specialist settings.Trauma-informed or therapeutic training.First Aid (outdoor or paediatric).Behaviour support/de-escalation training (e.g., Team Teach).Additional InformationThis is an outdoor-based teaching role in all weather conditions.The successful candidate must be flexible, reflective and committed to alternative education approaches.Regular supervision and specialist training will be provided due to the complexity of need within the cohort.The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.Closing Date for Applications Sunday 22nd March
