Position Overview

A Hotel Night Porter is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and smooth operation of the hotel during overnight hours. This role ensures guests receive professional assistance throughout the night while supporting operational, administrative, and maintenance tasks to prepare the property for the next business day.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular patrols of the hotel premises, including public areas and back-of-house spaces
• Monitor CCTV systems and security alarms
• Ensure all doors, windows, and restricted areas are secure
• Respond promptly to fire alarms, emergency alerts, and incidents
• Maintain a visible presence to deter unauthorised access
• Assist with late check-ins and early check-outs
• Respond to guest requests for additional items such as towels, toiletries, or bedding
• Handle room service requests where applicable
• Provide information and assistance to guests as required
• Ensure a professional and welcoming atmosphere at all times

Operational & Administrative Support

• Prepare public areas for the next day’s operations
• Maintain cleanliness and order in reception, lobby, and communal areas
• Address minor maintenance issues where possible and report defects
• Set up meeting rooms or breakfast areas as required
• Support other departments during quiet periods
• Update guest records and complete night audit procedures where required
• Prepare invoices and process late-night reservations
• Log incidents, maintenance issues, and security observations
• Complete handover reports for the morning team
• Ensure accurate documentation of overnight activities

Skills & Qualifications

• Communication Skills: Clear and professional verbal communication when assisting guests
• Problem-Solving Ability: Ability to respond calmly and efficiently to unexpected situations
• Attention to Detail: Maintain high standards of cleanliness, security, and documentation
• Security Awareness: Knowledge of security procedures and emergency protocols
• Customer Service Focus: Friendly, professional, and guest-oriented approach
• IT Literacy: Basic knowledge of hotel management systems and reporting tools

Working Conditions

• Shift typically operates from approximately 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Role requires independent working and minimal supervision
• May involve standing, walking patrols, and light lifting
