The Team

Working at York St John University`s York campus including our multi-million-pound Sports Centre at Haxby Road York, you will be part of a small team dedicated to providing high quality maintenance to multiple sports playing surfaces and the surrounding landscaped area.

The whole Grounds team take great pride in presenting the estate to the very best standard possible.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Grounds team on a full-time, permanent basis at York St John University. If you enjoy working outdoors and take pride in delivering high-quality sports surfaces, this could be the role for you.

About the role
You’ll be part of a small, dedicated team responsible for maintaining a wide range of sports surfaces at the University’s multi-million-pound Sports Centre on Haxby Road, York. Your work will help ensure students, staff, and customers have access to safe, high-quality playing surfaces all year round.

What you’ll be doing
• Maintaining synthetic playing surfaces and natural grass pitches
• Preparing and caring for pitches used for Football, Rugby, Gaelic and American football
• Supporting the upkeep of outdoor tennis courts and Padel facility.
• Carrying out day-to-day maintenance of soft and hard landscaped areas
• Applying sustainable methods of pitch care
• Working as part of a close-knit team to deliver an excellent service

Required skills and experience

Candidates are required to have -

National/Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 2 – Sports Turf Maintenance or National Technical Certificate or proven track record working as a Groundsperson on a professional basis
NPTC or equivalent certificates PA1, PA6 & PA2A
Working knowledge of the maintenance and preparation of natural sports surfaces.
Working knowledge of the maintenance and preparation of all-weather sports surfaces.
Ability to work as part of a team or individually using own initiative, a good time keeper and enjoy working outside
