Summary
Band 6 Lymphoedema Therapist, Part-time 15 hours/week (Thursday and Friday), Chelsea based. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Nurse or Allied Health Professional to join the Lymphoedema Service at the Royal Marsden Hospital’s Chelsea site. This service delivers prophylactic advice and treatment for those at risk/who have developed lymphoedema as a result of cancer and its treatment. This post offers the opportunity to gain the experience, skills and knowledge required to help reduce the risk of lymphoedema, in addition to helping patients with developed lymphoedema to manage their swelling at all stages of their cancer journey. Lymphoedema has physical and psycho-social implications for patients and so your ability to provide practical advice and intervention to will directly help to improve quality of life. You will be an integral member of the wider multi-disciplinary team and develop positive approaches to the holistic management of cancer-related lymphoedema, learning to tailor each patient’s treatment to their individual needs. You will need good communication skills to provide high quality care for individual patients and will utilise time management and organizational skills to contribute to the provision and smooth running of a high quality Lymphoedema Service. Previous lymphoedema experience is not essential and access to supervision, support and training will be provided.
To facilitate the provision of a co-ordinated, high quality service for patients with lymphoedema that is patient focused and will lead to an improved quality of life for the patient.
To contribute to an efficient and effective service for patients with lymphoedema by providing skilled care and expertise in lymphoedema management for patients who are receiving long-term advice for their lymphoedema.
To work closely with the Specialist Lymphoedema Practitioner in developing skills required for the provision of skilled care to those patients with complex swelling.
To educate patients, relatives and health care professionals concerning the management of mild, uncomplicated lymphoedema.
To demonstrate a positive and realistic attitude to the patient with cancer related lymphoedema to ensure that the physiological, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs of the patient and family are met.
To participate in the education of students within the Royal Marsden School of Cancer Nursing and Rehabilitation on aspects of lymphoedema management.
To support nursing and AHP students on university placement.

• To work closely with the Specialist Lymphoedema Practitioner and Advanced Lymphoedema Practitioner in the provision of lymphoedema services throughout the hospital
• At the request of the Specialist Lymphoedema Practitioner to undertake the first assessment of patients referred to the service and use reflective practice and clinical reasoning to identify their physical, psychological and psychosocial needs and identify treatment goals and plans.
• To develop skills in the use of equipment provided for the assessment and evaluation of a patient’s lymphoedema.
