SEN Teaching Assistant

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant for a school in Basingstoke. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering you the chance to grow into a permanent role and become a long-term trusted adult in children's lives.
You'll be working closely with pupils who require additional support due to learning needs, communication differences, autism, ADHD, or emotional & behavioural challenges. This role is perfect for someone with experience in care, support work, youth work, childcare, special needs, or for graduates in psychology, education, criminology, health & social care, or similar fields who want meaningful experience.
The Role:
Provide supportive 1:1 assistance to pupils with diverse SEN needs
Lead or assist with small-group work to build confidence and skills
Help pupils regulate emotions, navigate routines, and engage with learning
Work with teachers and SENCO to deliver personalised strategies
Encourage independence, resilience, and social development
Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment
Celebrate and recognise every step of progress, big or small
Ideal Candidate:
Experience with children, SEN, care, youth work, or support roles
Calm, patient, and confident in a variety of situations
Strong communicator who builds trust quickly
Adaptable and positive in supporting children's emotional and academic needs
Passionate about helping young people overcome challenges
Graduates looking for hands-on experience before further training highly encouraged
Contract Details:
Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Basingstoke
Start: ASAP
Hours: Full-time, long-term
Rate: £14.66 - £15.66 per hour
Contract: Temp-to-perm
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
Experience in children's services, care, SEN or similar desirable
Safeguarding training required (can be provided)
Must be committed to supporting vulnerable pupils in a professional capacity
Eligibility:
Right to work in the UK
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Two references
