The postholder will work in the Oral Medicine Department at LUDH where the Consultants in Oral Medicine are Dr Bijaya Rajlawat (Specialty Lead), Professor Anne Field, Dr Daniel Finn and Dr Caroline McCarthy.

The appointee will be expected to liaise with colleagues in Oral Surgery, Oral Diagnosis and Special Care Dentistry as well as other specialties at LUDH and the Trust.

To participate in the Oral Medicine service, including daytime emergency cover andinpatient referralsas required, in conjunction with the senior clinicians.

To participate in quality improvement projects and patient safety initiatives.

The postholder will be expected to engage in their own continuing professional development and to provide continuing dental education for other staff.

Clinical teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students and junior staff

All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their activity to that which is deemed to be within their competence.

The post is that of a Substantive Specialty Dentist in Oral Medicine (1.0 WTE) based at Liverpool University Dental Hospital Hosted by Liverpool University Dental Hospital, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation.

The clinical duties of the Specialty Dentist will be:

To participate in the Oral Medicine service, including daytime emergency cover andinpatient referralsas required, in conjunction with the senior clinicians.

To undertake oral mucosal biopsies under localanaesthesia.

Together with the consultants, to have continuing responsibility for the care of patients including monitoring of clinical test results and responding to urgent patient queries.

To participate in the training and continuing education of junior hospital staff.

To participate in the teaching of undergraduate dental students if required.

To participate in quality improvement projects and patient safety initiatives.
