Crynodeb
We're looking for a Mill Operations Manager to join our team. The initial focus of this role will be to aid the delivery of our Mill Wheel Repair project alongside our Building Surveyor and Millwright. You'll need to balance the watermill's role as a visitor attraction, café and working project, with an eye on future planning to get the site back to being a successful flour production site.
This role is a part-time role of 28 hours per week over four days, ideally Thursday-Sunday 9/9.30am-4.30/5pm to cover the Duty Management rota. Staff of City Mill are able to use the staff car park on-site.
What it's like to work here
You'll work closely with the Portfolio Visitor Operations & Experiences Manager, Facilities Manager, external Millwright and Food & Beverage Manager to maintain and operate the working watermill, meet production targets and help deliver great experiences for our visitors.
City Mill sits as part of the Hinton Portfolio of properties, comprising of Hinton Ampner, Uppark House and Garden, Winchester City Mill and Ludshott and Selborne Commons. The portfolio is large and varied, covering the Western part of the South Downs National Park.
What you'll be doing
As Mill Operations Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the site. Working very closely with the café and facilities team, you’ll form part of the Duty Management team each day, coaching and motivating the team to ensure a high standard of visitor experience. You’ll share responsibility for the presentation of the site and making sure our team is always aware of what’s happening on property for your visitors to enjoy. You’ll tell your visitors about the amazing work we do and what their money is funding.
You’ll be responsible for the mechanical management of the Mill machinery and ultimately the growing production of flour. Initially, you will be a key member of the project delivery team in the installation of our new waterwheel. This is a hands-on role so you’ll work closely with our internal and external experts (such as our Facilities Manager, Operational Risk Business Partner and Millwright) to ensure the proper maintenance of this amazing piece of engineering and will receive the relative training to be confident in performing preventative measures on all parts of the machinery. So you’ll need to be prepared to get stuck in at a moment’s notice and have the willingness to learn specialist maintenance procedures.
As the Wheel Repair project progresses, you'll lead a team of volunteer Millers and Packers to continue and grow the production of flour. You’ll need to have a sound understanding of Health & Safety requirements, especially Risk Assessments, COSHH and HACCP. You’ll also have an eye for commercial growth and opportunities, we have ambitions to develop our flour production and you will be a key cog in the delivery of that ambition.
