To provide support for a 6-year-old little boy who has Autism, PICA and a Learning Disability so that he can access social and leisure activities in the community. He is unable to communicate verbally and does not yet understand Makaton, which means he can struggle with understanding the world around him. These difficulties can affect him being able to regulate his behaviour and applicants will need to have patience and be able to respond positively and sensitively when these situations arise. Support will be given to applicants about how best to communicate with this little boy to understand his needs.
Main Duties
- Provide 1:1 close supervision for the child, he has no danger awareness and will need constant supervision, especially due to having PICA.
- Support is needed with all meals and fluids, as well as with his personal care.
Rate of pay
- £13.74 per hour. Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata.
- Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.
- Out-of-pocket expenses will be met by the employer, e.g. mileage to and from home and activities; and cost of activities agreed in advance with employer.
- ILG PA Employee Assistance Programme – this will be purchased by your employer after you have completed 6 weeks of employment.
Person SpecificationThe successful applicant must:
- Have experience and a positive understanding about children who have disabilities
- Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs
- Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour would be an advantage
- Have a high degree of initiative
- Be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised.
- Be flexible and have a positive and caring nature
- Respect confidentiality
