This opportunity is a hybrid role requiring you to be onsite in Cambridge around 50-70% of the time.
Job Description
The role will be to act as the senior mechanical engineer providing SME leadership and guidance in the development of bids and delivery of projects. There will also be occasion for the incumbent to lead certain projects. The role will require working with the current team generating and developing requirements, defining the mechanical architecture, compiling/checking of the System Engineering Management Plans. Additionally coaching others in the team in the above.
Your responsibilities in this role include:
Mechanical Design SME.
Leadership of Mechanical Design.
Specific to bids and projects and
People and discipline.
Drive compliance with Regulatory and Marshall processes.
Support the generation of complex design architecture for new and existing product design concepts from initial risk assessment and feasibility studies through to functional design freeze.
Lead technical input into bids and modifications.
Generate/Review/Check.
Project SEMP.
Project TP.
Customer and supplier Statement of Work.
Certification Documentation.
Bring significant platform and regulatory environment experience to efficient and effective completion of engineering data set.
Technical leadership and support to the mechanical design engineers.
Qualifications
· Qualified to degree level in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics with relevant and sufficient experience in the field. Alternative qualifications and or experience will be considered
Apply if you have most of the following:
· Apply sound systems engineering thinking to all aspects of work.
· Hold check signature for design and certification data sets
· In depth understanding of industry standard design practices such as tolerance assessment, DFMA and configuration management
· Work with stakeholder requirements to derive internal design requirements
· Generation of Customer Statement of Works and Technical Proposals
· Support and guidance to early careers engineers
· Develop mechanical approaches for modifications and projects
· Compile technical reports and certification documentation
· Understand mechanical certification and validation methods and be able to identify the appropriate Means of Compliance
· Demonstrable extensive experience working as a Senior Mechanical design engineer with hands-on experience in the Aerospace and Defence sectors.
· Experienced in planning and delivering complex tasks to schedule and budget demonstrating effective time management across many projects and priorities.
· Experience outside of Aerospace and Defence in other relevant sectors will be an advantage. We are seeking people with the ability to make a difference and pro-actively join our Systems Engineering approach to large and complex project work
