Herefordshire Council’s Independent Living Service is now recruiting qualified, experienced, HCPC registered Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapists to join our friendly team of Occupational Therapists and OT Assessment & Enablement Officers (OT AEOs). We are seeking motivated, committed individuals with sound working knowledge of community occupational therapy services and social care provision. We offer a range of working benefits and have both full and part time positions available, based within our Independent Living Services Duty and Locality teams.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist, you will work as part of a wider team with scope to practice with a diverse service user group & within a variety of rural, town, village & city settings. You will have supervisory responsibility for a small group of Occupational Therapy staff and maintain a small case load of complex cases. You will need strong interpersonal, communication & organisational skills and be committed to ongoing staff & service development.

Due to our wide range of enablement services, we encourage specialism practitioner roles in Moving and Handling, Technology Enabled Living, Adaptations and Equipment Clinical Lead for our Community Equipment Store. As Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist you will have the duty of dealing with daily referral enquiries, undertaking audits and attendance at regular stakeholder meetings. and managing staff performance. You will have responsibility for mentoring staff, students and managing performance, maintaining professional, organisational standards and championing key professional specialisms.

About us

The Independent Living Service is managed centrally by a qualified Occupational Therapy Manager and Deputy Manager and includes community equipment, housing, adaptations and Technology Enabled Living Services. We will also shortly be opening a new Assessment & Demonstration Centre focusing on developing our exciting new front door assessment and advice services.

We work in partnership within adult Social Care, with health and across Directorates. Our in-house Home Improvement Agency (adaptations) and Technology Enabled Living Service provides excellent platforms for professional cross-agency collaboration and development, around adaptive home technology and wider housing related solutions.

About You

As a Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist, you will be:

Registered as an Occupational Therapist with HCPC
Hold a Degree or Diploma qualified in Occupational Therapy
Have at least 3 years post qualified experience in Occupational Therapy: of which at least 2 years should be in Adult Social Care

Experienced in undertaking assessments for equipment & technology to increase independence & safety/ decrease dependence upon formal care
Experienced in undertaking assessments for complex & non-complex adaptations
Have supervisory experience
