We are ambitious in our learning and development programme with strong links within the West Midlands and our teaching partnership.

You will be based in the beautiful and scenic Staffordshire Moorlands, in the district Duty Hub based in Biddulph.

We are a small but supportive and welcoming team who share excellent relationships with our district colleagues in Early Help, SEND, Education, Children with Disabilities and Children in Care and Care Leavers Team. We very much embed a restorative model and are committed to ensuring that every child is supported through a whole district approach.

Main Responsibilities

You will be working with families at the point of referral completing visits and assessments to inform next steps and future planning.

You will be responsible for:

  • Completing of Initial Visits and Child and Family Assessments including a chronology, inline with statutory guidance. Ensuring that our children are seen and heard.
  • Uploading all visits and assessments in a timely manner in line with the Local Authority's recording policy.
  • Implement initial safety planning.
  • Completing your statutory duties in co ordinating the initial child’s planning meeting in preparation to transfer to our Assessment and Staying Together Team.
  • Completion of ICPC reports and attend the initial conference.
  • Co ordinate strategy discussions
  • Undertaking section 47 investigations.
  • Undertaking placement of children into local authority care, when it is agreed they can no longer remain at home.
  • Referring into our centralised services for specialist support/ services
  • Supporting our ASYE's and student Social Workers.
  • Making of urgent application to court for a EPO or ICO
  • Supporting Early Help colleagues with escalation (step up) visits.
The Ideal Candidate

More generally, overall, our social workers need to be a:

  • Qualified Social Worker with significant experience in a Duty and Assessment and a good knowledge of Child in Need, Child Protection planning & Court Proceedings.
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Have a current UK driving licence and vehicle, and be a confident driver covering both short and long distances.
  • Experience of supporting and mentoring your colleagues.
  • Flexible approach to your work and work well in a fast paced environment.

But above all, you will bring the desire to work with children and families to give them the right support, at the right time with the aim of keeping families together where it is safe to do so.
