Responsibilities for a senior clinician include the full range of activities routinely undertaken in assessing and managing acutely unwell medical patients.

Alongside covering our acute medical unit, we also provide acute physician cover to our emergency department and work closely alongside our physician colleagues to manage the acute medical take.

Our well established innovative ‘Physician A & B’ model ensures that there is an acute physician working alongside our emergency medicine colleagues at the front door 14 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The requirement to be part of this team is on a 1:12 day basis.

1. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the out-of-hours cover for the department.

2. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department. This includes being on-call for telephone advice and major incidents.

3. To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.

4. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

5. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

6. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is one of the largest NHS trusts in the West Midlands providing primary, acute and community services and we are incredibly proud of the diversity of both our staff and the communities we serve. We’re passionate about the value that diversity of thinking and lived experience brings in enabling us to become a learning organisation and leader in delivering compassionate care for our patients.

We are delighted that we have been rated as “Good” by CQC. We have achieved numerous awards; The Nursing Times Best Diversity and Inclusion Practice and Best UK Employer of the Year for Nursing Staff in 2020.
