What you'll be doing;
- Act as a deckhand under the direct supervision of Bargemasters, supporting the safe operation of waste collection vessels whilst at sea in the port of Southampton
- Assist with vessel maintenance and daily checks to ensure the barge is safe to go to sea and complies with MCA and Veolia land-based safety procedures
- Handle packaged and hazardous waste from visiting ships, ensuring safe collection, transportation and disposal in accordance with regulations
- Operate vessel cranes and manual lifting equipment safely to load and transfer waste materials (full training provided)
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by line managers to support efficient barge operations and customer service delivery
What we're looking for;
- GCSE or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English (essential requirement)
- Competent basic IT skills for completing documentation and operational records
- Physically fit with the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and handle manual tasks
- Reliable and flexible approach with availability to work weekends when required to support cruise operations
- Safety-conscious mindset with willingness to follow procedures and work under supervision at sea
- VHF SRC, Firefighting, First Aid and Personal Survival Techniques qualifications are desirable but not essential - full training including Bargemaster qualification will be provided
