SawbridgeworthWe are innovative!
That’s why we need people like you to help us. People who enjoy finding new ways to solve problems and get things done.
We have an opportunity for a qualified Health & Safety Advisor to join our Affinity Water and Plant Team.
The Role
This position plays a key role in supporting our operational teams to deliver work safely and consistently using best practice health and safety standards. You will work closely with colleagues across operational environments, providing practical guidance and solutions that support safe and effective delivery rather than taking a purely observational approach.
You will take the time to understand operational challenges on site and provide pragmatic advice that encourages positive behaviours and continuous improvement. The role offers the opportunity to influence how health and safety messages are communicated, from face-to-face engagement through to wider communication initiatives that support awareness and cultural improvement.
This is a fast-paced, field-based role operating across multiple locations rather than a single fixed site, requiring flexibility and strong engagement with a variety of teams and stakeholders.
Here are some of the activities you will be involved in...
- Managing and carrying out site inspections and audits
- Advising operational teams and supporting the setting of safety objectives
- Supporting and undertaking investigations into accidents and incidents
- Contributing health and safety input into new tenders and bids
- Assessing external working environments to ensure safe systems of work
- Identifying gaps within the health and safety management system and recommending improvements
- Developing and implementing new initiatives and sharing best practice across teams
- Advising on and communicating updated working practices in line with legislation and industry guidance
- Carrying out ABC tours (Attitude, Behaviour and Culture)
- Encouraging safety observations and proactive hazard reporting
We would love to hear from you if...
You demonstrate strong communication skills alongside sound health and safety expertise, with the ability to influence and engage operational teams in a practical and positive manner. You will take an innovative approach to problem-solving and be confident delivering clear, relatable safety messages within operational environments.
You will have significant experience working in a Health & Safety advisory role, supported by a thorough understanding of current HSE legislation, ideally gained within utilities, water, or civil engineering projects. A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar industry role is required.
A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent qualification such as an HNC in Construction) is essential, together with Tech IOSH membership and progression towards Graduate membership or equivalent professional status.
A full UK driving licence is required due to the site-based nature of the role.
