Primary role
This position performs skilled sheet metal, carpentry, and masonry to construct, install, and repair structures requiring precision and fine detail. The role involves planning and laying out work from blueprints, using advanced shop mathematics to develop patterns for complex designs. Key responsibilities include building and repairing frames, walls, and staircases, as well as performing masonry tasks like laying bricks and tile. The incumbent must follow safety regulations and maintain tools and a clean work environment.
Qualifications:
Must have a NVQ/ City and Guilds Level 2 in an appropriate discipline (i.e. Construction Skills)

Key Skills required for this role
1. Knowledge of carpentry and sheet metal work methods and techniques; and masonry techniques when using brick, block, and stone.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures and environmental standards and requirements; and regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
3. Knowledge of advanced shop mathematics to plan, compute, and lay out more complex projects
4. Skill in cutting and shaping to complete corners; constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying structures; formulating plans and templates involving straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles, and planes; developing patterns to include geometric projection and triangulation; setting-up, operating, and maintaining a variety of precision equipment and power and hand tools/equipment; and fabricating complex items from a variety of materials, such as galvanized or stainless steel, black iron, aluminum, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material, and alloys.
5. Ability to inspect and evaluate structural damage to sheet metal systems sufficient to plan and accomplish repairs; produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, structural soundness, and acceptable appearance; and perform decorative brickwork through placement of brick of different colors to create various designs and patterns.
6. Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Conditions of employment for this role
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required.
5. You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
6. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites. An appropriate, CAT B valid UK driver's license is required for the position.
8. Shift work may be required.
9. Will be required to train/guide lower graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees. 10 . May be required to be certified for working with and/or removing hazardous material.
11. Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Overtime and/or emergency overtime may be required.
12. A pre-appointment physical is required. This physically demanding position involves considerable bending, kneeling, standing, and stooping. The work requires crawling, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and performing strenuous tasks in awkward positions for extended periods. Frequent heavy lifting of materials up to 90 pounds is necessary.
13. Required to obtain and maintain any US or UK specific certifications required to successfully perform the work
14. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.
