Role overview
PA Media is the UK and Ireland’s trusted national news agency, delivering fast, fair and accurate multimedia journalism to
newsrooms and platforms around the world, 24/7.
Everything we do is driven by our purpose: we build trust in news, data and content. Whether we’re covering breaking news,
reporting from court, or delivering political insight, our focus is on accuracy, integrity and journalism our customers and
audiences can rely on.
Our Scotland team plays a vital role in covering the stories that matter, from politics and courts to major breaking news and
agenda-setting exclusives. We pride ourselves on accuracy, speed and collaboration, and on supporting each other to produce
journalism of the highest standard.
About the role.
We’re looking for a talented and driven Reporter to join our Scotland team.
This is a hybrid role, but you must be based in Scotland and able to travel throughout the country as required. Scotland is your
patch, whether that’s a court hearing in Glasgow, a political development in Edinburgh or breaking news anywhere in between.
You’ll cover a wide range of stories, filing accurate copy while also generating original content and exclusives. As well as
strong writing skills, you’ll be confident working across multimedia - supplying pictures, video and live video where needed and
using social media to source, verify and stand-up stories.
What you’ll need.
* A recognised journalism qualification
* Fast and accurate shorthand (100 WPM+)
* Experience reporting for a news agency, national or regional daily newspaper, or a broadcast outlet
* Sound knowledge of media law and court reporting
* A full driving licence and access to a vehicle during the working day
* Strong news judgement and the ability to file quickly without compromising accuracy
* Confidence using social media to source and verify content
* The flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required and to travel across Scotland at short notice
* The ability to build and maintain a strong contacts book across your patch
Nice to have
* Experience producing video content
* Live reporting experience
* Established contacts within Scottish politics, public services or the courts
What we offer – built around you
Time to recharge
* 25 days’ holiday plus public holidays
* The option to purchase additional holiday
* A dedicated Wellbeing Day each year
* 8 hours of paid volunteering time annually
Health & wellbeing support
* 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme
* Health Care Cash Plan
* 24/7 GP access
* Annual eyecare vouchers
* Life assurance (up to 4× salary)
Financial & lifestyle benefits
* Company pension scheme (minimum 8% total contribution)
* Car allowance
* Enhanced family leave policies
Recognition & development
* Learning & Development programmes
* Training Sponsorship Award
* Long Service awards
