Crynodeb

The Environment Agency are committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.

If you’re driven by the idea of protecting and restoring the water environment, this is a chance to turn that passion into impact. The water industry is entering a transformative period, and your work could help shape how it responds to major environmental challenges.

You’ll join the national Water Quality Regulatory Development team within the Environment and Business directorate, where we champion the protection and improvement of water quality across England. We influence water industry investment decisions, guide long‑term planning, and turn environmental ambition into action. As we prepare for the next Price Review and River Basin Management Plan, we’re looking for an Advisor to support this work.

You’ll operate at the intersection of policy, planning, and delivery. Day-to-day you could be shaping water quality investment programmes, supporting technical leads in developing and delivering new water quality work programmes, or advising wider teams in applying policy. Your understanding of water quality and environmental policy will help teams align their work to prioritise environmental outcomes. You’ll balance customer needs with legislative requirements, ensuring decisions are practical and environmentally responsible. You can expect collaboration, variety, and complex problem-solving.

The choices made now will influence the health of our waters for decades. You’ll help guide the work of water companies and contribute to a healthier, more resilient water environment.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You’ll also have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

The team

Water Quality Regulatory Development are a friendly dispersed team and promote an inclusive and supportive culture. We work with a range of teams both internal and external. We’re part of the Environment and Business Directorate which supports the Environment Agency by using evidence, expertise, and innovation to enhance delivery, influence policy, legislation, and secure resources. We steer the direction, set the priorities, and shape our organisation's approach to future water industry environmental water quality actions.
