At Booker, we’re building solutions that help colleagues work smarter and enable us to serve our customers even better. We’re now looking for a Technical Programme Manager to lead the delivery of our new Booker Marketplace — a complex, cross‑functional technology programme that will play a key role in our future growth.
As a Technical Programme Manager, you’ll deliver large‑scale, cross‑functional programmes with significant business and technical complexity. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering and business teams to ensure we deliver value early and often, keeping colleagues aligned, informed and engaged throughout.
You’ll be responsible for shaping clear delivery plans, managing technical implementation, overseeing governance, and ensuring risks, issues and dependencies are well understood and acted on quickly. You will bring structure, clarity and calm leadership to a fast‑moving environment, helping Booker deliver the Marketplace programme safely, on time and within budget.
This role is pivotal to ensuring colleagues, systems and processes are ready to support the Marketplace launch and ongoing improvements.
- Lead the delivery of complex programmes with multiple business and technical risks, ensuring alignment to key Booker priorities.
- Create, own and track detailed delivery plans—including technical implementation—keeping stakeholders across Booker updated.
- Ensure governance processes are followed so the Marketplace programme stays on track for time, cost and quality.
- Maintain strong stakeholder engagement, monitoring compliance with timelines and updating RACI, risk and issue registers for senior leaders.
- Identify risks early, facilitate discussions, manage escalations and implement mitigation plans.
- Understand technical architectures well enough to anticipate impacts on dependencies, timelines and implementation.
- Use your knowledge of engineering best practice and infrastructure to appreciate and overcome delivery challenges.
- Build positive relationships and hold delivery partners to account on outcomes, quality and improvement plans.
- Work collaboratively to improve processes and ensure systems are used effectively.
- Identify and resolve project issues quickly to protect system stability, availability and functionality.
- Produce accurate project management documentation reliably and efficiently.
- Organise training and guidance to ensure end users are set up for success.
- Strong programme management experience with the ability to influence and build credible relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Proven project, stakeholder and programme management skills, with a track record of delivering complex technology initiatives.
- Strong reporting and financial forecasting skills, with confidence navigating change and ambiguity.
- Experience delivering web‑served projects; familiarity with API interaction is desirable.
- Understanding of order‑to‑invoice processes and how they interact with wider business functions.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to adapt your style across teams and suppliers.
- A consistent track record of delivering results and driving accountability.
- Experience training others is helpful, and a project management qualification is desirable.
- Strong organisational skills, clear documentation discipline and the ability to communicate confidently and effectively.
