We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

As ELA Officer, you will work to support the delivery of the Council’s Ethical Lettings Agency, from engaging with local landlords and investors to secure new properties onto our leasing scheme, to managing the existed leased stock and the associated tenancies. You can enjoy a diverse role as you act to promote the offer and canvass for new opportunities, whilst carrying out regular property visits and building up relationships with our tenants, helping to ensure tenancies are successfully maintained. Working alongside the rest of the ELA Team, you will work to promote high property and management standards in the Private Rented Sector, whilst helping to alleviate local homelessness pressures as you let homes to households in urgent need.

About you:

You will have experience of working in property and/or tenancy management, with a good knowledge of the local housing market and the legislation, policies and good practice relevant to the post. You have experience of working as part of a team in a busy environment, with an ability to support others but also the initiative to work independently, take ownership of problems and actively seek your own solution. Strong communication and administration skills are essential, with an experience of gathering and maintaining records effectively. You have an excellent approach to customer care when dealing with a range of stakeholders and can apply your influencing and negotiating skills to achieve successful outcomes for our service and customers.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

This is a great opportunity to harness new skills and knowledge within a growing, dynamic and innovative Strategic and Private Sector Housing Team. We are passionate about improving access to good quality, affordable housing for our residents, and work with a number of housing providers, private landlords and trusted partners to help achieve this. We provide a range of financial support and tailored advice to help people access and sustain housing, and to live well in their homes whether privately renting or homeowners and are always looking at new ways to extend our reach. Join us at a time of real change and opportunity, and expect training, development and diversity within a supportive and flexible housing team.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for #TeamWigan.
