Are you an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with proven experience in analyses and design on infrastructure schemes?
Are you looking to develop your career within a leading employee-owned engineering consultancy?
We are seeking an enthusiastic Geotechnical Engineer with proven consultancy experience in geotechnical engineering design for an immediate start to join our team within either our Haywards Heath or Portsmouth office. The successful candidate will report to our Geotechnical Technical Director and provide geotechnical input to civil/structural engineering projects across the JBA business.
You will be joining an award-winning environmental and engineering consultancy which puts innovation, sustainability and resilience at the heart of its work.
We are independent and staff-owned under a stewardship model which drives long term decision making and investment. We have offices in the UK, Ireland, Romania, India, Singapore and Australia.
Our people are all important and we invest heavily in life-long learning and skills development. JBA supports hybrid working which provides for greater flexibility with the way that we work. The role:
Our workload is primarily focused on coastal and flood risk management projects, that involve a full life cycle of geotechnical involvement from desk studies, planning and supervising GIs, ground modelling to undertaking concept to detailed designs. Our design focus includes gravity and embedded retaining walls, foundation designs/piling, coastal protection structures such as groynes, breakwaters, and rock armour revetments in a dynamic coastal environment.
Our engineers work within multi-disciplinary project teams helping us to find the most economic and sustainable design solutions. In addition to the flood risk management work, we also provide support to Network Rail and various local authorities in relation to slope stability investigation and design for road and rail infrastructure.
The main aspects of the role include:
• Delivery of a range of flood risk engineering and environmental improvement projects, including soil-structure interactions.
• Geotechnical modelling for retaining walls, slopes, piling and foundations.
• Geotechnical design and designers risk assessment.
• Ground investigation planning and supervision.
• Ground Model assessment, writing geotechnical interpretative and design reports, construction specification for piling and retaining walls/ earthworks.
• Finite element modelling skills would be desirable (but not essential).
The team member we are looking for:
This position will suit a senior engineer looking to progress their career.
A degree (or equivalent) in civil or geotechnical engineering is essential. The right candidate is expected to progress towards, or already hold, membership of the ICE or other appropriate institutions.
Demonstrable experience of geotechnical design and numerical modelling with a variety of design packages is considered essential, in particular PLAXIS 3D/2D, but also experience using WALLAP and GeoStudio or similar retaining wall design and slope stability/seepage software would be of interest. Site experience including Ground Investigations, Asset management and/or construction supervision would be advantageous.
Essential attributes for the role:
• Proven design consultancy experience.
• Experience of working in a client-focused organisation.
• Excellent report writing and effective communication skills.
• A sound appreciation for engineering principles and good analytical skills for problem solving.
• Self-motivation and a high degree of organisation.
• Ability to interpret sound ground model/s and produce geotechnical designs with minimal supervision. Hands on experience in slope stability, foundations and retaining wall designs.
• Working knowledge of industry software WALLAP, GeoStudio SlopeW, SeepW, Settle or equivalent.
Location:
The role will be based at either our Haywards Heath, RH16 3BW or Portsmouth, PO6 3EZ offices.
