Job Description:

A smart and independent woman based in the Queens Road/ Victoria Park area in Leicester is seeking a Personal Assistant Carer/Companion for 14 hours a week and this role could be shared by 2 PAs.

Duties:

The role will be roughly a 50/50 split between personal and home support, and social inclusion activities.

In the home you will assist the lady with tasks such as dressing, and prompting medicines to be taken. You will also undertake housework and help with meal prep such as shopping, chopping vegetables, and helping to batch cook meals for days when the lady has less energy to cook. This will take place over 3-4 days per week with a morning visit to be agreed, starting between 7.30 and 8.30 am.

The remaining hours will be used for social activities as she also likes to get out in nature, and enjoys visiting the Attenborough Arboretum and University Botanic Gardens. If you have a dog who could join in with these walks, all the better!

Attributes:

The lady has a keen interest in current affairs, politics, environmental issues, gadgets, reading, and nature, and would like someone who can converse about these subjects.

It is important that the PA is respectful of the employer's independence, provide assistance at the right time, enabling the employer to lead an independent / individual lifestyle in their own home within the community.

The PA should understand their role to assist with the self-defined needs of their disabled employer, and feel confident to ask what these needs are, and listen to requests and follow directions given.

The PA should:

Meet the job’s physical requirements (eg. moving & handling)
Arrive at the required times ready to work
Contact immediately if going to be more than 15 minutes late.
Establish close working relationship on one to one basis.
If problems arise, discuss & resolve immediately.
Maintain confidentiality, respect privacy of employer.
Have a current driving licence (fuel reimbursed at rate to be agreed)
The PA's attitude:

Appreciate stresses & strains of disabled employer, and the effect this can have on the acceptance of help.
Understand that the preservation of dignity & independence is important.
Respect the possessions & equipment in the employer’s home.
Use of the telephone, television, radio etc should only be with employer’s prior consent.
Any questions regarding tasks should be clarified before starting.
Duties/hours of work required may vary according to requirements.
