Summary

Dog Wellbeing Technician

Hands-on animal care role supporting dog wellbeing, specialist healthcare and behaviour monitoring within a kennel environment. Ideal for someone with animal care experience, dog handling skills and a passion for welfare and safeguarding.

SALARY: £26,400 - £28,400 per annum pro rata (including weighting allowance) + Excellent Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: Woodford, Redbridge, Essex (IG8)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

WORKING HOURS: 35 hours per week on a rota basis covering Monday to Sunday. Shifts between 7am and 9pm and every third weekend

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Dog Wellbeing Technician to support the health, welfare and behavioural development of dogs preparing to change lives.

As a Dog Wellbeing Technician you will deliver daily husbandry, monitor wellbeing and provide specialist canine healthcare support within a kennel environment, ensuring high standards of animal welfare and safeguarding.

Working closely with volunteers and colleagues, the Dog Wellbeing Technician will coach, mentor and communicate effectively, helping others build confidence in routine dog care and positive handling techniques.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Dog Wellbeing Technician include:

• Dog Care Management: Oversee the day-to-day care of a group of dogs, ensuring routine husbandry and wellbeing needs are met

• Health Monitoring: Identify health concerns, make informed decisions and escalate issues promptly in line with procedures

• Behaviour Support: Maintain and develop dog behaviour using positive reinforcement handling techniques

• Volunteer Supervision: Lead and support dog wellbeing and fostering volunteers to perform their roles effectively

• Training Delivery: Provide coaching and technical guidance on routine canine healthcare and welfare practices

• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records, interpret health data and identify local trends or concerns

• Stakeholder Communication: Communicate clearly with internal teams, volunteers and dog owners, clarifying technical information where required

• Dog Transportation: Transport dogs safely for health-related appointments across the region

• Team Support: Assist with additional duties to ensure the effective running of the site


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

• Qualification in animal care, or equivalent relevant work-based experience

• Previous experience working in a kennel or animal care environment

• Proven understanding of animal wellbeing, dog care principles and common health conditions

• Ability to handle and walk a range of dog breeds, ages, sizes and temperaments

• Experience supporting volunteers or within a customer-focused organisation

• Computer literate with Microsoft Office skills and ability to use databases

• Effective communication, organisation and time management skills

• Ability to make decisions, problem solve and remain emotionally resilient

• Able to meet travel requirements, including transporting dogs

• Eligibility to work in the UK

DESIRABLE

• Experience coaching or mentoring colleagues or volunteers

• Knowledge of animal first aid

• Understanding of positive reinforcement training techniques
