As a Gas Installation and Breakdown Engineer in our Asylum Accommodation and Support Services team, you’ll play a key role in keeping homes safe, warm, and compliant. Your work will directly support the wellbeing of the people who rely on the properties we maintain, ensuring essential services run safely every day.
You’ll carry out inspections, repairs, servicing, and installations that protect residents and contribute to safe, high‑quality living environments. Your expertise will help us create positive impact in communities and support a safer future for everyone who uses our services.
What you’ll do as a Gas Installation and Breakdown Engineer
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Report faults using the AORA system to ensure issues are logged and closed appropriately.
- Undertake sample audits of external suppliers’ work and report on findings.
- Provide technical advice and support to colleagues in the maintenance team.
- Install gas appliances and systems safely and to industry standards.
- Test controls and safety devices to ensure they function correctly.
- Identify and repair gas leaks and replace faulty or outdated parts.
- Maintain accurate gas safety records for all works completed.
- Check property reports (such as asbestos reports) before beginning work or request updated information when required.
- Conduct quality control checks on gas certifications and gas‑related works.
Does this sound like you? You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…
- A recognised gas industry qualification and current Gas Safe registration.
- Level 3 qualifications in Domestic Natural Gas Installation and Maintenance, Gas Utilisation, or Domestic Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent).
- Essential certificates such as CENWAT and CKR1 and CCN1.
- A solid ability to diagnose faults and carry out domestic gas work safely.
- A valid UK driving licence and the willingness to travel within the region – you’ll be provided with job need vehicle, with the option of private use!
Vetting and checks
This role requires BPSS clearance, which involves identity verification, employment history, and criminal record checks to meet government security standards. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be required to ensure we can offer appropriate support for your wellbeing and performance.
