Lead and deliver a five-day immersive, university-hosted careers programme for aspirational 14–17 year olds.

IgnitED is a five day careers experience and industry mentoring summer programme uniquely combining behind the scenes industry visits, hands on professional experiences, practical workshops, team challenges, and opportunities to build friendships with a new network of peers.

Hosted across three university campuses, with regular visits to local organisations, IgnitED helps participants gain clarity on future pathways, build confidence, and develop invaluable connections with peers who share similar aspirations.

Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis until 1 May 2026. Successful applicants will be contacted promptly. Applications may close early once all positions are filled.
Please note: Successful applicants will be engaged as independent contractors for a fixed term contract. Applications from all relevant backgrounds are welcome.

IgnitED Programme Mentor – Contractor Summary

Your Profile
Applications are welcome from:
• Professionals with experience in relevant fields
• Graduate or postgraduate students in relevant subjects
• University faculty members and school teachers
• Current undergraduate students with tutoring, mentoring, or relevant short course experience

We welcome applications from all university students and faculty, or professionals with experience of the relevant industry. Successful applicants will bring working knowledge of pathways into one of our programme fields: Medicine, Engineering, Marketing, The Arts, Law.

The Role
This contract role involves two key components:
• Programme Material Familiarisation and Localisation (pre August)
• In person Programme Delivery (August dates listed above)

Successful applicants must be available and committed to completing both elements. While these are ideally offered as a combined role, exceptional candidates may be considered for the delivery week only.

Responsibilities
1. Pre Summer Programme Development
Before the summer, mentors will be provided with IgnitED programme materials and will:
• Read, learn, and fully understand the programme structure and content
• Familiarise themselves with all materials to ensure confident delivery
• Adapt and localise content to the region, introducing relevant local professionals, organisations, and career pathways
• Bring their own industry expertise to enrich and enhance the core programme content
This work will be supported by IgnitED’s Director of Programmes.

2. In Person Delivery
You will lead the full delivery of your programme in person at the assigned university campus over five consecutive weekdays. This includes:
• Teaching and facilitating sessions
• Guiding group activities
• Supporting individual pupils
• Creating a positive, inclusive learning environment

You will be on site each day from approximately 8am to 6pm, contributing to both formal sessions and the wider participant experience.

Support and Resources
• Full support from the Programme Director
• Access to IgnitED’s Professional Network for insights, collaboration, and guidance

Contracting Requirements
Successful applicants will sign a contract outlining the terms of engagement, responsibilities, and independent contractor status. Contractors are responsible for their own tax declarations and payments.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks
A valid DBS check is required due to work with under 18s. Evidence may be provided via:
• The DBS Update Service
• A recent DBS certificate
• Completion of a new DBS check

Safeguarding
All contracted mentors will sign a declaration confirming they understand and will adhere to IgnitED’s safeguarding policies. Induction will be provided.

Additional Safeguarding Information
As this post involves direct contact with children, it is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’ under the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) and are not subject to disclosure.

• Undergo a DBS check (and international equivalent if applicable)
• Explain any gaps in your CV
• Provide proof of Right to Work in the UK
• Provide two recent and relevant referees, who will be asked specifically about your suitability to work with children
• Confirm you have no known reason preventing you from working with children
• Provide official identification and certificates for our records
