Crynodeb

Weston College is expanding their advanced engineering provision and are seeking an experienced CNC programming professional to join our team as a Lecturer in Engineering - CNC.

This is a rare opportunity to take your industry expertise into a brand‑new training facility located within the Airbus site in Filton, Bristol, playing a direct role in shaping the future workforce for aerospace, precision engineering, defence and advanced manufacturing.

You do not need teaching experience for this role; Weston College will fully train and support you to become a qualified lecturer.

This is a full-time role, working 37 hours per week.

Interviews will take place on-site, at one of our college campuses in Weston-super-Mare.

About the role

As a Lecturer in Engineering - CNC, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality technical education to apprentices and full‑time learners, ensuring they develop the skills, behaviours and professional standards needed in modern engineering environments.

You will:

  • Teach practical and theory-based CNC sessions, including programming, tooling, machining and simulations.
  • Bring real-world engineering knowledge into the classroom, connecting learning to actual industry practice.
  • Support students pastorally and academically, helping them build confidence and technical competence.
  • Contribute to the development of high-quality programmes linked directly to employer need.
  • Provide guidance on progression into employment, apprenticeships or higher-level study.

You will typically work with small groups (around 15 learners) and a supportive team of lecturers, technicians and specialist staff.

A typical week includes four days of teaching and one day of planning, marking or CPD.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a CNC professional with the technical capability, industry insight and hands‑on expertise to inspire the next generation of engineers.

You will bring:

  • A Level 3 Engineering qualification (minimum).
  • Significant CNC experience, including machining, programming, diagnosing faults, setting tooling, and working with modern CNC technologies.
  • A commitment to transferring your industry knowledge into a teaching environment.
  • High professional standards and the ability to model workplace behaviours for learners.

You do not need:

  • A teaching qualification
  • Classroom experience
  • Prior understanding of Further Education frameworks

Outstanding candidates from industry who have never taught before are actively encouraged to apply. You'll be supported through structured induction, shadowing and fully-funded teacher training.

Experience with 3-axis and 5-axis machining is advantageous, and training is available if you want to develop or update your skills in these areas.

For full details about the role and its responsibilities, please view the job description and person specification attached above.
