Neway International are seeking a Qualified Social Worker to join our client based with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
Location: Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council
Hours: 20 per week (flexible, part‑time considered)
Start Date: 02 March 2026
End Date: Initially for 3 months, likely to be extended
About the Client
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council’s Community Services directorate provides essential support to children, young people, and families across the region. The Disabled Children’s Service consists of five specialist teams supporting children with lifelong, permanent, and substantial disabilities. The 11+ Team focuses on supporting young people aged 11–18 through key transitional milestones, preparing them for adulthood and ensuring their complex needs are met.
The Role
This is a specialist, non‑case‑holding role requiring an experienced Social Worker to undertake Mental Capacity Assessments (MCA) and complete Court of Protection documentation for young people aged 16. You will be secondarily allocated for assessment purposes only and will work closely with the 11+ Team and Adult Services to support young people through transition. The role requires strong knowledge of MCA and DoLS legislation, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to work independently within statutory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
• Undertake Mental Capacity Assessments for young people aged 16
• Complete Court of Protection paperwork and associated documentation
• Work alongside the 11+ Team to support young people through transition to adult services
• Provide specialist input to support tailored care and support plans
• Liaise with Adult Services and other multi‑agency partners as required
• Ensure assessments and documentation comply with statutory requirements and best practice
• Maintain accurate, timely records in line with organisational standards
• Form and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with young people with complex needs
Candidate Requirements
• Qualified Social Worker with relevant registration
• Thorough knowledge of MCA and DoLS legislation, case law, and practice guidance
• Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships with young people with complex needs
• Experience working within Children’s Services or similar statutory environments
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, disability, and transitional pathways
• Ability to work independently and manage assessments within statutory timescales
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong IT skills and ability to produce clear, accurate reports
