Neway International are seeking a Paralegal – Childcare Law to join our client based with London Borough of Lambeth.
Location: Lambeth Town Hall
Hours: 35 per week
Start Date: asap
End Date: Initially for 3 months, extended after review
Pay Rates:
• PAYE: £20.55 per hour
• Limited/Umbrella: £26.77 per hour
About the Client
Lambeth Council’s Corporate Resources Directorate provides essential legal services across the authority. The Childcare Legal Team supports safeguarding, care proceedings, and statutory responsibilities under the Children Act 1989, working closely with social care teams to protect vulnerable children and families.
The Role
This role provides specialist paralegal support within the Childcare Law team, assisting solicitors with case preparation, legal documentation, and the management of sensitive and complex childcare matters. You will support the delivery of high‑quality legal services, ensuring deadlines are met and statutory requirements are adhered to. The position requires strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist solicitors in preparing legal documentation, case bundles, and evidence
• Support case management across childcare proceedings and related legal matters
• Conduct legal research and maintain accurate case records
• Liaise with internal teams, social workers, external agencies, and the courts
• Prioritise workload effectively to meet strict deadlines and statutory timescales
• Draft correspondence, statements, and reports as required
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with legal and organisational standards
• Provide administrative and legal support across the Childcare Law team
Candidate Requirements
• Educated to degree level (preferably with numerical, statistical, or computing content) or substantial experience in a similar role
• Knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and relevant childcare legislation
• Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems
• Experience working within legal, childcare, or local authority environments is desirable
