Ipswich Borough Council is looking for a confident, motivated Senior Temporary Accommodation Officer to lead our dedicated team in the provision of temporary accommodation hostels for homeless households.

As a Senior Temporary Accommodation Officer, you’ll play a pivotal role in managing and developing a team responsible for managing our temporary accommodation hostels and households placed into external accommodation units, this includes managing complex customer issues along with monitoring rent accounts and staff performance. Ensuring our customers receive a fair and thorough service that reflects legislative requirements and best practice.

This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, problem‑solving, and leading people. One moment you’ll be dealing with a complex customer issue, the next driving improvements to our service delivery.

Reporting to the Temporary Accommodation Manager, you will be leading, supervising, and motivating a team of Temporary Accommodation Officers, ensuring high performance and excellent service delivery.

Overseeing comprehensive assessments of customers’ housing and support needs, ensuring all residents receive a comprehensive, person centred service.

Yu will ensuring the effective operation of the Temporary Accommodation Hostels, applying Health and Safety practices, risk assessments and Equality Act considerations.

Making sure admissions and rent arrears processes are followed and effectively managing staff performance.

Contributing to policy development, new initiatives, and performance monitoring across accommodation services.

Producing and presenting clear, insightful reports for managers, councillors, and committees.

Supporting the wider team by covering for the Temporary Accommodation Manger when required.

You’ll bring a blend of leadership ability, housing knowledge, and a calm, solutions‑focused approach. You’ll be comfortable making decisions, managing challenging situations, and communicating with a wide range of people.

Hours of work are 37 per week, Monday to Friday with a requirement to be a duty manager on a rota basis. There is also a requirement to join the out of hours rota to cover overnight and weekends as the on-call response for homelessness presentations. This is paid in addition to the basic salary.

DBS clearance is required for this role.

This is an office-based role, mainly located within the council operated hostels, but does allow for some agile working where required.
