The Opportunity Following a series of major Nationwide Contract Wins, a premier Civil Engineering firm is expanding its technical capabilities in the East of England. We are seeking a multi-disciplined Topographical & Setting Out Surveyor based in the Cambridge area to work on a long term civils project. This unique role combines traditional site engineering with advanced aerial data collection, supporting a diverse portfolio of earthworks and infrastructure activites in the region.
Technical Requirements & Responsibilities
- Surveying Excellence: Lead setting out and surveying operations for complex civils sites, ensuring 100% accuracy in alignment with construction drawings.
- UAV Engineering Surveys: Fully responsible for the planning and execution of aerial surveys. Must be a fully accredited and licensed UAV Pilot (in accordance with UK CAA Regulations), with a proven track record in conducting engineering-grade UAV surveys.
- Systems Proficiency: Advanced use of Total Stations, GPS Kits, and Dumpy Levels.
- Software & CAD: High level of competency in AutoCAD LT and LSS (including volume calculations) to produce precise as-built drawings and process UAV survey data.
- Earthworks & Machine Control: Expertly manage the initial setup, calibration, and continuous monitoring of 3D Machine Control systems to ensure precision grading.
- Compliance & QA: Maintain rigorous site QA documentation and flight logs to ensure project integrity and safety.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 3 years’ specialist experience in civil engineering surveying.
- UAV Credentials: Valid UK UAV Pilot License (A2 CofC / GVC) with specific experience in engineering/construction environments.
- Qualifications: Ideally HNC/HND in a construction-related field.
- Mobility: Full UK Driving Licence is essential for site travel across the Cambridgeshire region.

- Equipment: Full suite of modern surveying equipment and UAV flight hardware supplied.
