Neway International are seeking three Lawyers (Project) to join our client based with Southwark Council.

Location: 160 Tooley Street, Southwark, SE1 2QH
Hours: 7 hours per day
Start Date: 9 March 2026
Duration: Initially for 3 months, likely to be extended.
Employment Type: Temporary


Work Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days in the office, 3 days remote (dependent on caseload)

About the Client
Southwark Council’s Legal Services team provides high‑quality, specialist legal support across the organisation, ensuring robust governance, compliance, and effective decision‑making. The team handles a wide range of complex legal matters and plays a key role in supporting the Council’s statutory responsibilities and strategic priorities.

The Role
The Lawyer (Project) will provide specialist legal advice and casework support across a range of matters, contributing to the effective delivery of legal services within the Council. The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to manage a varied caseload, and the capacity to work independently while maintaining high professional standards.

Key Responsibilities
Provide high‑quality legal advice and support across relevant areas of law

Manage a varied caseload, ensuring timely and accurate progression of matters

Prepare legal documents, reports, and correspondence to a high professional standard

Support the Council’s decision‑making processes through clear, evidence‑based legal guidance

Work collaboratively with internal departments and external partners

Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, Council policies, and professional standards

Maintain accurate records and case management documentation

Contribute to project‑based legal work as required

Attend the office as needed to support casework and service delivery

Candidate Requirements
Qualified Lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX)

Strong experience managing legal casework within a public sector or similar environment

Excellent analytical, drafting, and problem‑solving skills

Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Strong communication skills with the ability to advise confidently and clearly

High level of professionalism and attention to detail

Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment

Commitment to delivering a responsive, customer‑focused legal service
