Neway International are seeking a Business Support Assistant to join our client based with Monmouthshire County Council.
Location: County Hall, Usk, Monmouthshire, NP15 1GA
Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon–Thu 9am–5pm, Fri 9am–4:30pm)
Start Date: 1 April 2026
Duration: 13 weeks - extended after review
Employment Type: Temporary
PAYE: £14.13 per hour
About the Client
Monmouthshire County Council’s Children’s Services team provides vital support to children, families, and social work teams across the county. Business Support plays a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the service, supporting statutory processes, safeguarding responsibilities, and high‑quality administrative delivery.
The Role
The Business Support Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative, data, and organisational support to Children’s Services. This includes managing correspondence, maintaining accurate records, supporting data validation, handling safeguarding referrals, and assisting with financial and HR‑related tasks. The role requires strong digital skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work confidently in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including letters, emails, and mail merges
Maintain accurate electronic and paper records, ensuring correct file management
Gather and prepare information for Data Protection Subject Access Requests (DSARs)
Provide general administrative support including scanning, photocopying, printing, and bookings
Support database validation, reporting, and system updates
Manage diaries, book meetings, and produce minutes
Conduct file audits to ensure statutory documentation is complete
Handle petty cash and record financial transactions
Support monitoring and validation of financial information
Act as first point of contact for safeguarding referrals and incoming calls
Build strong working relationships across Children’s Services
Create and maintain children’s records on internal systems (PLANT)
Support colleagues with system use, troubleshooting, and training
Assist with HR administration including recruitment tasks and incident reporting
Support data quality improvements and scheduled reporting
Participate in Digital Champion meetings and cascade updates to the team
Candidate Requirements
Minimum 2 years’ recent administrative experience
Strong digital and IT skills, including data handling and system navigation
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
Confident communicator with a professional telephone manner
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable, helpful, and proactive approach
Ability to travel to Usk (car required due to remote location)
Willingness to complete 6 weeks of full office‑based training (5 days per week)
Standard DBS with Children’s Barred List required
